The Soft Return: Releasing the Need to Audition to Belong.
Not back to hustle…
What if this fall you do not go back to performance?
Not back to hustling, shrinking yourself, or shape-shifting to belong?
But back to presence.
Back to care.
Back to the version of you that doesn't have to audition to be accepted.
Our August theme came into focus after I heard something that stopped me in my tracks:
80% of autoimmune diseases are diagnosed in women.
And increasingly, researchers are linking that to the emotional weight we carry— People-pleasing. Overfunctioning. Chronic stress. The quiet pressure to always be “on.”
It made me wonder:
So this month, our invitation is simple:
I invite you into:
A slower return.
A gentle check-in.
And a practice of connection that doesn't ask you to perform.
And honestly, right now? That might be the greatest gift we can give—to ourselves and each other.
So, at your next cookout, gathering, or even in the grocery aisle when you run into a friend, maybe skip the “What are you (and your kids) up to?” questions.
Lately, I've been reaching for smaller ones—gentler ones that make room for what's real:
“What kind of day are you having?”
“What's the most boring thing you've done today?” You'd be surprised how often that one gets the biggest laugh.
“What's something small that made you pause, smile or laugh?”
They don't require a pitch. Or a polished version of you.
They're just a way to be present—with yourself, or with someone else.
Honest questions. Gentle entry points. Real connection.
Your August check-in
So, before the season shifts, Khatleen, may I ask you to take a moment? A moment to breathe. And gently ask yourself—
“If I didn't have to impress anyone this month, how would I move differently?”
Let that question guide you—into conversations, decisions, and boundaries that feel more honest and more like you.
Something coming up as you read this? Hit reply.
Sometimes, saying it out loud—or typing it to someone who sees you—is a small act of accountability. A quiet declaration.
No pressure, just presence.
And one more thing...
Here's something to hold close:
Release the need to be impressive.
Be present instead.
That's the version of you we're rooting for.
May this be the month you let presence feel like enough.
And may you return softer, slower, and knowing you are still (and always have been) completely loved and completely worthy.
